Can I say that the human mind is both remarkable and simple in the same sentence? Well, I guess I just did… and it’s true. You’ve probably seen the quote, “If you can believe it, you can achieve it.” Do you believe that statement? Let’s dig a little deeper into this and you can re-evaluate at the end of this blog.
I used to see that quote all the time! “IF YOU CAN BELIEVE IT, YOU CAN ACHIEVE IT!” It sort of went in one ear and out the other, and it wasn’t until I started this health and fitness journey that I actually started to look at that and say “Wow – how true that is!”
Here’s another quote –
“If you think you can do a thing, or think you can’t do a thing, you are right.” -Henry Ford
I have come across so many people in the last few years who have told me “I just can’t give up_____” or “I just don’t think I can do that!” or “There’s no way I could ever run a 5K (or a 1/2 marathon or a mile or down the block).” Guess what? They are absolutely right! Well, they are right as long as they have that mind-set and are saying that to others and to themselves regularly.

You have to “re-train” your brain! You want to accomplish something great? Then you have to tell yourself – constantly – that you CAN do it! It’s such a simple thing to tell yourself that you CAN – to tell yourself that you are so much STRONGER, in mind and body, than you EVER thought you could be – to say to yourself that you will show the naysayers that you will do what they said you couldn’t do! Simple – yet, so remarkable!
I went from being someone who only drank cokes and sweet tea – who hardly ever exercised – who ate fried and fast food a lot – who thought people who ran marathons or spent an hour or two a day at the gym were either crazy or they were super-humans… I went from being that girl to being the girl who almost exclusively drinks water – who exercises on a regular basis – who ran a 1/2 marathon (even though I thought it was the craziest thing I had heard when I was first asked to run it with a friend) – all because I told myself that I wanted to change. I wanted to be a better person – a healthier person – a person who could do things I never thought I could do! I had to re-train my brain. I had to talk to myself in a positive way and BELIEVE that I could accomplish greatness! I am about to have to do it again…
I am about to do Beachbody’s Ultimate Reset – a 21-day “re-train of my body”. It will be challenging, but I am telling myself that I can do it – I need it! I need a fresh start – again – so that I can move forward with a new, healthy body and mind and be confident in myself again. It does help that I will have a couple accountability partners – I know there will be days I will be leaning on them and vice versa – there is no shame in that – that is actually a beautiful thing! Three positive-thinking minds are greater than one and there is great power in numbers! Remember – Surround yourself with people who are going to LIFT YOU UP!
God gave us an amazing mind for a reason – Use it right – Believe in yourself – Make a difference in yourself and when you do that, there is no limit to what you can accomplish!
